What is the PTA? You are the PTA! The Abernethy Elementary School PTA is for anyone and everyone – parents, teachers, staff, grandparents, neighbors, friends – who has an interest in supporting our school. Be part of the solution! It is our mission to enrich our children’s educational experience through PTA programs, events, and classroom support. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Abernethy School PTA is looking for the following volunteers for the 2021-22 school year:

Fundraising Chairs

Term: 1 year

The Abernethy PTA runs four major fundraisers during the year. These are usually chaired by two people with one person in training. We are looking for volunteers to chair the following:

Auction

Winter/spring (love planning big events?)

Each fundraiser is unique, but chairs must:

  • Prepare materials to be sent home with each child, update Support Abernethy and PledgeStar websites, and communicate with the community in advance
  • Assemble a volunteer team to execute the event or activity
  • Report to the board on progress and donation amounts

THESE ARE GOOD FOR...people who want to make a significant impact on the financial viability of Abernethy’s programs. While each fundraiser can be time-intensive, it is only for a concentrated period of time. Except for the day of the event, most of these can be managed remotely.

Community Meeting Expectations: Fundraising Chairs are expected to present updates to the community at the kickoff of the event, the month leading to the event, and the month after the event.

Tour De Ladd Co-Chair

Term: 2 years

The Tour De Ladd Chairs are looking for a Co-Chair to learn the ropes in the 2021/22 school year and take the lead in the 2022/23 school year. If you love bikes, this is for you!

  • Prepare materials to be sent home with each child, update Support Abernethy and PledgeStar websites, and communicate with the community in advance.
  • Assemble a volunteer team to execute the event or activity.
  • Report to the board on progress and donation amounts.

THIS IS GOOD FOR…A person or people who want to make a significant impact on the financial viability of Abernethy’s programs. While this fundraiser can be time-intensive, it is only for a concentrated period of time. Except for the day of the event, most of these can be managed remotely.

Talon Editorial Team

Term: 1 year

  • Two- or three-person team to put together our school newspaper 3 to 5 times each year
  • Works with students to brainstorm and assign writing tasks
  • Designs, proofreads, acquires art, and preps newspaper for press

THIS IS GOOD FOR...people who love writing, editing, and working with students. Commitment is a couple hours per week from October to June, plus more during press time.

Community Meeting Expectations: The Talon Editorial Team is not expected to attend any community meetings.

Talon Graphic Designer

Term: 1 year

  • Compiles articles and art to lay out school newspaper using design software such as InDesign

THIS IS GOOD FOR...someone with graphic design experience (or the desire to learn InDesign).

Community Meeting Expectations: The Talon Graphic Designer is not expected to attend any community meetings.
