4th and 5th grade boys who are interested in playing for the Cleveland High program can register here. Boys who do not make the Cleveland team can play at Abernethy but need to follow the regular Abernethy registration procedures.

K-2nd Grade Coed
Your child will be placed on a team based on their age and availability. No assessment is necessary. Practices start in December and will be once a week at Abernethy before 6pm and with games on Fridays after school before 6pm; on 8 foot hoops starting in January and ending in early March.

Rules are modified to support development of all players.

If you have a 2nd grade child that can play on 10 foot hoops and is ready for real basketball rules, you can come to Assessments for 3rd+ grade.

Cost $50, includes t-shirt.

Boys & Girls 3-5th Grade

Assessments are on Monday, November 6th from 5-8pm at the Abernethy Gym (and if everyone comes at 5pm there will be a long line).

Come any time and plan to play for 30 minutes. There are no cuts for these teams. Everyone makes a team.

There will be 2 practices per week between 5-8pm starting in November. At least one practice per week is at Abernethy with another practice at Sunnyside Methodist Church.

Games are played on Saturdays in the Portland Parks and Recreation League.

4-5th grade boys can also try out for Cleveland Youth Basketball Teams.  Tryouts will be held on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. There will be cuts for these teams. Register here for tryouts.

Boys who do not make Cleveland Youth teams will be placed on Abernethy teams—but must attend Assessment night at Abernethy November 6th!

We need volunteer Coaches for every grade level to make this program a success. Every team could use at least one Head Coach, and one Assistant Coach and/or Team Parent. Please let us know if you are interested in coaching, or co-coaching a team by emailing
